THE BASSET, AT A GLANCE
01 / THE WILLOW RIDGE STORY
There is nothing quite like a Basset Hound: gentle company, a nose that knows, and an expression you never forget.
Willow Ridge is a place to learn about this remarkable breed and to ask thoughtful questions about bringing a hound home. We believe families deserve clear information about temperament, day-to-day care, health, and the puppy-matching process.
Specific details about the Willow Ridge breeding program, home-raising environment, and socialization practices will be added when provided by the breeder. We would rather be candid than make promises we cannot verify.
How the inquiry process worksGood questions are the beginning of a good match.
02 / THE BASSET HOUND
Originally bred as scent hounds, Bassets pair a powerful nose with a wonderfully mellow spirit. Here are the traits that make them one of a kind.
Short, sturdy legs support a long, substantial body. That low-to-the-ground build was made for following scent trails, not for long-distance running.
Long, velvety, low-set ears frame soulful eyes and a gently wrinkled face. They are iconic—and need regular attention to stay clean and comfortable.
A scent can be irresistible to a Basset. Leashed walks, secure spaces, and simple nose-work games make the most of this natural talent.
Typically affectionate, sociable, and good-natured, many Bassets enjoy family life. As with any dog, children and other pets need kind introductions and supervision.
That deep bark or melodious bay is part of the hound package. They may be calm indoors, but quiet is not a promise this breed makes.
A short, smooth coat comes in familiar hound color combinations, including tricolor and lemon-and-white. Expect some shedding and drool, plus routine ear and skin care.
With roots in France, these scent hounds were bred to track rabbits and hares. Every dog is an individual; breed traits are a guide, not a guarantee.

05 / LIVING WITH A BASSET
Their laid-back charm is real. So are their needs. A little consistency goes a long way.
Enjoy daily walks at a comfortable pace and scent games. Use a leash or secure enclosure: that nose can lead the way.
Keep training patient, positive, and short. Food rewards can help, but count treats as part of a balanced diet.
Brush the short coat regularly, check long ears, and keep skin folds clean and dry with your veterinarian's guidance.
Measured meals, healthy weight, and suitable exercise help support joints and the long back. Discuss any changes in movement with a vet.
GOOD TO KNOW
Bassets can be prone to ear and skin problems, joint and back issues, weight gain, and bloat/GDV. Retching without bringing anything up, a swollen abdomen, or sudden distress can be an emergency—seek immediate veterinary care. Ask about the actual health screening and records for any puppy and its parents.

08 / COMMON QUESTIONS
Bringing home a Basset deserves more than a quick answer. Here are the basics, with business-specific details left open until verified.
Read the inquiry processAvailability and litter dates have not been provided. No puppies shown on this site are listed for sale. Check back for verified updates or prepare a question for the breeder.
Pricing, waitlist terms, and any deposit policy still need confirmation from Willow Ridge. Do not send money based on this website; ask for the written terms and real puppy details first.
Ask to see the parent dogs' relevant health information and your puppy's veterinary records, vaccination and parasite-prevention history, and any written placement agreement. Specific Willow Ridge practices have not yet been provided.
Many are affectionate and sociable family companions, but each dog is an individual. Supervise children and introduce new pets gradually and thoughtfully.
Many Bassets enjoy company and may struggle with long stretches alone. Plan for companionship, enrichment, and a gradual routine that fits the individual dog.
Plan for daily walks and sniffing enrichment, regular brushing, and attention to ears and skin. Their short legs and long backs make a healthy weight and appropriate activity especially important.
Pickup, travel, and any delivery arrangements have not been confirmed. Discuss safe transport and the handover plan directly with the breeder before making commitments.
Prepare a safe sleeping area, puppy-appropriate food, bowls, leash, ID, chew toys, a veterinarian, and a patient routine. Ask for the puppy's current feeding and care records before homecoming.
